Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

Information you give us directly:

• Account registration — If you create an account, we collect your email address and any display name you choose. Account creation is handled by Clerk (see Section 6).
• User profile — You may optionally add a display name, account type (patron or bar owner), and social media links (Facebook, Instagram).
• Bar and deal submissions — If you submit a bar listing or drink special, we store that content along with the time it was submitted.
• Live chat messages — Public chat messages you send are stored in our database and visible to all visitors.
• Contact or support requests — Any emails or messages you send us directly.

Information collected automatically:

• Log data — Standard web server logs may record your IP address, browser type, referring page, and pages visited.
• Analytics — We may use a privacy-conscious analytics service to understand general traffic patterns (page views, session counts). We do not build individual behavioral profiles.
• Cookies — See Section 5 for details.

What we do NOT collect: We do not collect payment information, government IDs, precise geolocation, or any sensitive personal data. We do not sell your data.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Operate and display the site — show deals, bar listings, the member directory, and live chat
• Create and manage your user account and profile
• Enable community features like following other members and public chat
• Respond to your questions or support requests
• Detect and prevent abuse, spam, or violations of our Terms of Service
• Understand aggregate usage so we can improve the site
• Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your information for advertising profiling or sell it to any third party.

3. User Accounts

Creating an account is optional. You may browse deals and bars without signing in.

If you create an account:

• Your email address is used to authenticate you via Clerk (our authentication provider) and is not displayed publicly.
• Your display name and account type are visible to other logged-in users in the Members directory.
• You may delete your account at any time from your Account settings page. Deleting your account will remove your profile. Bar listings and deals you submitted may remain visible unless you separately request their removal (see Section 10).

4. User-Generated Content

The site allows users to submit bar listings, drink specials, and public chat messages. Please be aware:

• Chat messages are public. Anything you type in the Live Chat is visible to all visitors of the site. Do not share personal information in chat.
• Submitted deals and bar info are public. Bar names, addresses, and deal descriptions you submit will be displayed to all visitors.
• Your display name may be shown alongside content you submit.
• We reserve the right to remove any content that violates our Terms of Service or that we determine is inaccurate, offensive, or harmful.

5. Cookies & Analytics

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies:

• Essential cookies — Required to keep you signed in and remember your preferences (e.g., light/dark mode). These cannot be disabled without breaking site functionality.
• Authentication cookies — Set by Clerk to manage your login session.
• Analytics cookies (if enabled) — May be set by a third-party analytics service (such as a privacy-first tool) to count page views and sessions. These do not identify you personally. You can opt out by using a browser extension that blocks analytics scripts.

We do not use advertising cookies or behavioral tracking cookies. Your browser's "Do Not Track" signal is respected where technically feasible.

6. Third-Party Services

We rely on the following third-party services to operate the site:

• Clerk (clerk.com) — Handles user authentication (sign-up, sign-in, session management). Clerk may process your email address and authentication data under its own Privacy Policy.
• Replit (replit.com) — Hosts this application. Replit may process server-side request data under its Privacy Policy.
• OpenStreetMap / Leaflet — Powers the bar map. Map tile requests go to OpenStreetMap servers; your IP address may be visible to them. See OSM Privacy Policy.
• AI services — The AI chatbot feature may transmit your messages to a third-party AI provider to generate responses. Do not include sensitive personal information in chatbot messages.
• Google Fonts — Fonts are loaded from Google's servers. Google may log font request data per its Privacy Policy.

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third-party services and encourage you to review their policies.

7. Data Retention

• Account data is retained until you delete your account.
• Chat messages may be periodically purged at our discretion to manage storage, or retained indefinitely as public community history.
• Bar and deal listings are retained until removed by an administrator or upon your request.
• Server logs are typically retained for 30 days.
• We may retain certain data longer if required by law or to resolve disputes.

8. Data Sharing & Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may disclose information only in these limited circumstances:

• Service providers — As described in Section 6, we share data with third-party services necessary to operate the site (authentication, hosting, maps, AI).
• Legal obligations — If required by a valid court order, subpoena, or applicable law, we may disclose information to law enforcement or regulatory authorities.
• Protection of rights — We may disclose information when we believe in good faith that it is necessary to prevent fraud, illegal activity, or harm to any person.
• Business transfers — If the site is sold or transferred, user data may be included as part of that transaction. We will notify users via a prominent notice on the site before any transfer occurs.

9. Children's Privacy

This site is intended for adults (21+) as it covers alcoholic drink specials. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 years of age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

• Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Correction — Request that we correct inaccurate data. You can update your profile directly from your Account page.
• Deletion — Request deletion of your personal data. You can delete your account from your Account settings. For other deletion requests, contact us below.
• Opt-out of analytics — Use a browser extension (e.g., uBlock Origin) to block analytics scripts.

To exercise any right, contact us at the address in Section 13. We will respond within 30 days.

Note: Michigan does not currently have a comprehensive state privacy law equivalent to California's CCPA. However, we honor reasonable data requests regardless.

11. Security

We implement reasonable technical measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication via Clerk, and limited access to the database. However, no method of internet transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and you use the site at your own risk. If you discover a security vulnerability, please contact us promptly.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and, where appropriate, post a notice on the site. Your continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
